Carta takes an ecological approach to fragrance design; our practices are rooted in sustainability, environmental stewardship, and reverence for our planet. Our fragrances are inspired by the complexity of Earth’s ecosystems and the people working to protect them. It is our intent to foster awareness of current environmental issues and to support organizations dedicated to finding conservation solutions.

We remind you to remain conscious of the interconnectedness of our species and the land that sustains us.

We invite you to allow our fragrances to encapsulate you on your journey, wherever that may be.

Our Promise

We selectively choose fine fragrance ingredients that delight the senses without straining natural resources. Each extrait de parfum features a signature essential oil personally sourced by founder, Heather D’Angelo, under the close guidance of individuals and organizations committed to sustainability.

Our natural raw materials are organic, our lab-derived materials are safe for both you and the planet, and we're cruelty-free in the sourcing and testing of all of our formulations. Carta fragrances are free of parabens, unnecessary additives, stabilizers, and toxins.  Parfumes are made and bottled in small batches. We use reclaimed, recycled, and biodegradable packaging materials whenever possible.

A portion of the proceeds from Moena 12|69 sales is returned to Camino Verde, the only organization in the world distilling Moena Alcanfor. Camino Verde is a grassroots organization located on the Tambopata River in the Peruvian Amazon region of Madre de Dios.

Camino Verde’s dynamic team consists of Peruvian foresters and farmers working collaboratively to reforest hundreds of species of Amazonian trees and to protect this regions’ unparalleled biodiversity.  They engage with local communities to implement regenerative management plans focused on the sustainable harvest of dozens of species of trees that provide beneficial fruits, miraculous medicines, and aromatic essential oils. Le Nez

Heather D’Angelo is a San Francisco-based perfumer, musician (with the band Au Revoir Simone), and ecologist. The dream for Carta originated while she was collecting botanical samples from the Malaysian rainforest as part of her research at Columbia University. After several years of working with plant-based aromatic compounds, she developed an understanding that scent, like music, is a transformative instrument. Both have the arcane power to suspend moments and places in time.

With Carta, D’Angelo explores the artistry of perfume through her mastery of musical composition and ongoing scientific inquiry. Rooted in her passion for environmental conservation, D’Angelo’s romance with scents is shaped and driven by a commitment to conscious practices and a desire to share the stories behind Carta’s ingredients.
